June Blockbuster Season Is Here — And It's Coming in Hot

10 hours ago by Alex Reed 5 min read

May gave us Mario's record-breaking opening and Star Wars back in theaters. Now June arrives with He-Man, the Wayans family reunion, and a vampire rock star. Here's everything hitting screens the first week of June 2026.

Summer 2026 has already been operating at full volume. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie obliterated the box office with a $370 million global opening weekend. The Mandalorian and Grogu brought Star Wars back to theaters after seven years. Backrooms turned a creepypasta into A24's latest horror sensation.

And June? June is about to make May look like a warm-up.

The Big Screen — June 5

Masters of the Universe

The last time He-Man hit theaters was 1987. Dolph Lundgren in a loincloth, Frank Langella chewing every piece of scenery in sight. It was gloriously terrible and somehow also kind of great.

Now Masters of the Universe is back, and this time Amazon MGM is going all in. Travis Knight — the guy who turned Bumblebee into the best Transformers movie and directed Kubo and the Two Strings — is behind the camera. Nicholas Galitzine plays Prince Adam/He-Man. Jared Leto is Skeletor. Idris Elba is Man-At-Arms. Alison Brie is Evil-Lyn. Camila Mendes as Teela. Even Kristen Wiig shows up.

That cast alone tells you Amazon is treating this as their big summer franchise launcher, fresh off the success of Project Hail Mary. If Knight can bring the same heart he brought to Bumblebee, this could genuinely surprise people. If not, well — at least we'll have Jared Leto in a skull mask.

Anticipation level: High. This is the summer wildcard.

Scary Movie 6

The original Scary Movie came out in 2000 and made $278 million worldwide on a $19 million budget. Then the franchise changed hands, lost the Wayans brothers, and slowly faded out.

Now Scary Movie is back with the people who made it work in the first place. Marlon Wayans. Shawn Wayans. Anna Faris. Regina Hall. Plus Damon Wayans Jr. joining the family business and Heidi Gardner from SNL.

The trailer generated so much buzz that Paramount moved the release UP a week from June 12 to June 5. When a studio moves a comedy forward instead of delaying it, that's confidence. If you grew up quoting "I see dead people" in Brenda's voice, this one's for you.

Anticipation level: Pure nostalgia fuel. Opening weekend is going to be massive.

Still in Theaters

The Mandalorian and Grogu enters its second full week and should still be dominating screens. Backrooms continues its creepy run at A24. And Nate Bargatze's film debut The Breadwinner — a comedy with Mandy Moore, Colin Jost, Will Forte, and Kumail Nanjiani — should still be finding its audience after a late May opening.

Plenty of options if you've already seen the new releases or just want a chill theater night.

Streaming — First Week of June

Love Island USA Season 8 — Peacock, June 2

Ariana Madix returns as host after Season 7 became a legitimate phenomenon — 18.4 billion minutes streamed in just six weeks. Peacock's biggest franchise, period. If you're into it, you already know. If you're not, just accept that your group chat will be unusable for the next month.

The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 — Prime Video, June 3

The Legend of Vox Machina drops three episodes at launch, then goes weekly. This is the penultimate season — Season 5 will be the final one — so the stakes are as high as they've ever been. Critical Role fans have been waiting, and Prime Video knows this is one of their most dedicated fanbases.

The Vampire Lestat — AMC, June 7

Interview with the Vampire Season 3 is rebranding as The Vampire Lestat, and for good reason — Sam Reid's Lestat takes center stage as a rock star. Yes, the Anne Rice version of a vampire becoming a frontman. Six episodes of what's quietly been one of the best shows on television. If you slept on the first two seasons, now's the time to catch up before this drops.

The Verdict

June's first week is a genuine buffet. Masters of the Universe is the movie with the most to prove — it could be this summer's surprise hit or its biggest swing-and-miss. Scary Movie is the safest bet for a good time. And streaming is quietly loaded with Love Island dominating the conversation, Vox Machina building to its endgame, and Lestat going full rock god.

Summer 2026 isn't letting up. Buckle in — we're just getting started.
