May the 4th Be With You: Maul's Finale and The Mandalorian's Imminent Return
Happy Star Wars Day! We've got massive updates on the 'Maul – Shadow Lord' finale and a look ahead to 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' hitting theaters in just a few weeks.
May the Force be with us all today! There is no better time than May the 4th to look at the state of the galaxy. And right now, the galaxy is absolutely thriving.
As we celebrate Star Wars Day, we are staring down the barrel of one of the most anticipated finales in recent memory. Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord drops its ninth and final episode of the season this Sunday. Gideon Adlon's incredible performance as Devon Izara has given us some of the darkest, most visceral storytelling since The Empire Strikes Back, and Maul himself has never been more terrifying. After last week's absolute massacre, the finale promises a confrontation that could recontextualize the entire criminal underworld during the Reign of the Empire. Let's just say my lightsaber is ignited and ready. The series has beautifully bridged the gap between The Clone Wars and Solo, doing for Maul what Andor did for the Rebellion.
But the dark side isn't the only thing rising. We are less than three weeks away from a monumental return to the big screen. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22. It has been seven years since our last theatrical adventure, and bringing Din Djarin and his tiny green apprentice to cinemas is exactly what the franchise needs. Between rumors of the mysterious 'Commander Coin' villain and a full theatrical budget, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are about to show us the Way on the biggest screen possible. It's the perfect culmination of the Disney+ era returning to its blockbuster roots.
So grab some blue milk, rewatch your favorite era—whether it's the tragedy of the prequels, the triumph of the original trilogy, or the bold new steps of the Disney+ shows—and strap in. The next few weeks are going to be a wild ride through hyperspace.
