Then came June 3rd, and Amazon MGM Studios pulled the plug with a rationale that felt like a slap in the face to every fan who ever memorized a gate address or debated the finer points of Prior technology.
But if there's one thing we know about the SG teams, it's that they don't just surrender when the odds are astronomical.
Enter the #SaveStargate campaign. While the industry news cycle has moved on to the next corporate shakeup, the community has been quietly—and then loudly—organizing. The goal is simple: show Amazon MGM that there is a visible, passionate, and sustainable demand for Stargate that transcends "just the existing fans."
And this past weekend at Shore Leave 46, the resistance got some serious reinforcements.
David Hewlett (our favorite, eternally sarcastic Dr. Carson Beckett) and Rachel Luttrell (the incomparable Teyla Emmagan) didn't just attend the event; they stopped by the #SaveStargate table and put their names on the banner. Seeing the Atlantis leads stand in solidarity with the fans is more than just a photo op—it's a signal. It tells the studio that the people who built this franchise believe in its future just as much as we do.
It’s a classic Stargate move. When the SGC was facing an impossible threat or Atlantis was cut off from Earth, they didn't wait for a miracle; they engineered one. That’s exactly what’s happening here. From the fan-led petition to the cast's public support, the community is essentially building its own wormhole back to a live-action series.
Whether you're a die-hard SG-1 veteran, an Atlantis devotee, or someone who thinks Universe was ahead of its time (indeed, it was), this is the moment to get involved. Amazon needs to see that the "niche" they're worried about is actually a global community of millions who are still waiting for that unscheduled offworld activation.
